Choosing an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy provider is an important, personal decision. You and your child will spend many hours with your ABA therapist, so you’ll want to choose a provider with the skills and expertise that your child needs. You’ll probably want to ask questions like:
“What is the center’s approach to ABA therapy?”
“What are the therapists’ qualifications?”
“How much are parents involved?”
At Innovative Behavior Options, we’re here to answer your questions and help your family thrive! We work with some of the best ABA therapists in the field, and to help you get to know our team, from time to time we spotlight some of our rock-star staff here on our blog. Today, we’d like to introduce you to one of our newest Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) Alanna!
Roswell ABA Therapy Center Staff Spotlight
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am Alanna, and I am a new BCBA at IBO! I have been working in the field for 5 years as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and recently sat for my BCBA exam in November of 2022. So far it’s been the most fun and rewarding career I could’ve imagined.
What is your role at IBO?
As a BCBA I create programs based on data and assessments, supervise RBTs, provide parent training, and get to play with our clients, too.
What does a typical day look like for you?
There is no typical day in ABA, and that’s part of what makes it great! I may be probing new skills, supporting an RBT with a challenging behavior, supporting parents with an adaptive skill, or working with a client on communication, social skills, or adaptive living skills. Each client is unique, and every day is different and engaging.
What interested you initially about this type of work?
When I first started working in the field, what interested me the most was how therapy can open up a kiddo’s ability to communicate and become independent. There is no better feeling than when a child can navigate their environment without support and access their wants and needs independently.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The best part about my job is seeing how happy kiddos can be in their own unique ways. Some kids like bubbles, some like streamers, and others enjoy the trampoline. Seeing each child gain access to their favorite activities independently and watching them learn to communication opens up their whole world.
What is the best part of your week?
The best part of my week is parent training! I love hearing the new things that a child is doing with their parents that we may have been working on in our sessions.
What causes are you passionate about?
I am passionate about teaching my clients to ask for what they want and need. I am also passionate about teaching my clients how to play with toys in new ways. Kids learn so much through play, so I like to make learning as enriching and motivating as possible!
What puts a smile on your face?
My clients are the reason behind my smile. No matter how challenging the day has been, all our hard work is dedicated to supporting the child and making their life as fulfilling as possible.
Alanna’s dedication to using ABA therapy to help children with autism and her passion for working with parents and families are just two of the many qualities that make her such an asset to our team and clients.
