As you’ve probably noticed by now, at Innovative Behavior Options we’re really proud of our impressive staff of applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapists! It’s their dedication, hard work, and passion for helping our clients that’s truly at the heart of our success.
Today, we’d like to introduce you to one of the newest (and most influential!) members of our staff: Kristen H. Kristen plays a unique role at our Roswell, GA therapy center as an on-site Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). As a BCBA, Kristen is the supervisor responsible for training staff and overseeing center-based therapy sessions. Next time you see her in our therapy center, give her a wave!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Sure! I’m originally from Georgia, but I spent the last 8 years living in Texas (we just moved back to Georgia two months ago). Our household includes me, my husband, my 2 year old daughter, and our two cats, Bells and Zoe.
I’m a former school psychologist, and I worked in public schools both here in Georgia and in Texas. And since December, I’ve been a BCBA at Innovative Behavior Options!
What does a typical day look like for you?
Busy! Each day, I usually do some combination of training staff, modifying programs and creating materials for clients, conducting assessments and analyzing data, and developing treatment plans. And of course, the best part: I get to play with kids!
What interested you initially about this type of work?
I love helping children with autism reach their fullest potential! And I love problem solving. No two children are ever the same, so what works for one child will not necessarily work for another. It’s a fun challenge.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love developing relationships with the families that I serve. It’s so motivating to see the progress each client has made each week. And I love hearing about the successes from the therapists that I supervise.
What causes are you passionate about?
I’m truly passionate about improving the independence and quality of life for children and families affected by autism. It’s what got me into this line of work in the first place.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned recently?
I love listening to the podcast “ABA Inside Track” to help keep me up to date on the latest ABA research. Recently, I’ve been following Greg Hanley’s work on Delay and Denial Tolerance training.
What puts a smile on your face?
Hearing a child’s first words.
We’re so lucky Kristen has joined our team! We love having her in our Roswell, GA therapy center, and so do our clients! If you’re interested in learning more about ABA therapy or working with one of our wonderful therapists, check out our website or give us a call at 770-250-0093.
