Choosing a provider for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for your child is an important, personal decision. You want to assess both the center’s approach to ABA therapy and the staff – the therapists, supervisors, and team who will be interacting with you and your child.
You can learn about a center’s approach to therapy through their website and phone calls (check out our approach to ABA therapy here). But how do you learn about the staff when making your choice? At Innovative Behavior Options, we like to spotlight members of our rock-star staff so that you can learn more about the outstanding people who are designing and implementing the individualized behavior plans that will help your family achieve your goals! We know that we have the best staff in the business, and we want to give you a chance to get to know the team.
ABA Therapy Staff Spotlight in Roswell, GA
Today, we’d like to introduce you to one of our newest board certified behavior analysists (BCBA), Lods!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I was born and raised in Haiti. I moved to Florida when I was 9 and lived there until my recent move to Georgia this past year. I’ve always lived near mountains, and hiking and photography are two of my favorite hobbies.
I worked with children throughout high school and college and always knew my career would involve working with kids. After earning my undergraduate degree from Florida A&M University, I spent a year working for a non-profit organization call City Year. Their mission is to help students who struggle with behavior issues succeed in school, and it led me to discover the field of ABA therapy. I started working as a registered behavior technician (RBT) and fell in love with the field!
What does a typical day look like for you?
As a BCBA, there is no such thing as a typical day! My schedule changes based on clients’ needs. Some of my daily tasks include conducting parent training, modifying and updating clients’ programs, and providing support and resources to RBTs, parents and other caregivers.
What interested you initially about this type of work?
During my time with City Year, I worked in a middle school classroom where 80% of the students had an IEP. I noticed the progress my kids made based on individual goals I made with them and working with them 1:1. ABA therapy was the perfect fit for my interests!
What is the best part of your week?
The best part of the week is seeing my clients make progress with goals that will improve the quality of their lives, especially if it’s a goal that they’ve been struggling with. I also love empowering parents with the tools they need to be their child’s advocate and their excitement, too, when a new skill is mastered.
What causes are you passionate about?
ABA therapy is life changing! I am passionate about spreading the knowledge of ABA in under privileged areas. As someone who immigrated from another country, I’ve seen first-hand that there are many kiddos who do not have access to ABA therapy but who would greatly benefit from it.
What puts a smile on your face?
Walking into a client’s home for supervision and seeing their genuine excitement and eagerness to show me something they’ve worked on. It makes me feel incredibly grateful that I can make a positive difference in their lives.
