Atlanta Area ABA Therapy Provider Staff Spotlight

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) Shannon!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I was born and raised in North Atlanta. I have always loved the mountains so I consider myself lucky to have graduated with a communication degree from Young Harris College in North Georgia. Throughout high school and college summers, I worked with children with special needs at a local camp. I loved implementing goals to ensure these children enjoyed the same camp opportunities as their neurotypical peers.

After working in the corporate world, a friend from college enlightened me about a job as an ABA therapist. I realized this was a career path I wanted to pursue.

What does a typical day look like for you?

As an RBT, I work with clients in their homes or at the IBO center. I implement appropriate behavior plans to improve social and life skills. When working with children, I feel like every day is different. I set individual goals for each client, and I work hard to implement the behaviors necessary to achieve these goals.

What interested you initially about this type of work?

I have a younger brother who has autism. We are very close in age and have a special bond. My brother helps me see life through a different lens. I have always been curious about how people think and learn. Choosing a career in this field felt like a natural fit for me.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It is so rewarding when a client achieves a specific goal. I really enjoy the look of delight on the child or the parent’s face when a goal is mastered.

What is the best part of your week?

The best part of my week is on Friday when I feel like I have given my best efforts throughout the week with each of my clients.

What causes are you passionate about?

I have seen how ABA therapy works successfully for my clients. I am passionate about continuing to learn new techniques and methods to continuously improve their lives.

What puts a smile on your face?

Going to work every day at a job I love!  Developing a close relationship with my clients, watching their progress, and achieving their goals definitely makes me smile.

Shannon’s commitment to her clients and passion for using ABA therapy to improve the lives of children with Autism are part of what make her such an asset to our team and clients.
