In an effort to share with our clients more about our center and our staff, we wanted to highlight some of our team members–including Innovative Behavior Options’ founder, Robin Stone.
Robin started the company in 2005 and at first, offered all services herself. She grew the company by serving low-income areas of Alabama before making the move and settling in to Georgia.
What interested you most in pursuing a career in ABA therapy?
When I was in undergrad, I volunteered with low-income families that had a child with Autism. I was introduced to the field of ABA at that time. Once I taught a child to talk for the first time, I was hooked. I changed my career path from family counseling to Applied Behavior Analysis and the rest is history.
What do you enjoy most about the children and families that you work with?
I love seeing the progress in the child. I love seeing the problem behaviors start dropping on the graphs in Catalyst (our data collection portal). I love when family has learned the tools needed to successfully take their child out in public to places like the movies, a restaurant, or the dreaded grocery store.
What is the best part of your week?
Hearing the positive stories from therapists about their “wins” for that week.
What causes are you passionate about?
Bullying is something I’m passionate about. I was bullied a lot as a child and many of the children we work with also struggle with being bullied and feeling like an outcast. It’s important to help children build up their confidence and also keep them safe in school. Suicide rates related to depression, anxiety, and bullying are on the rise and that terrifies me to the core. I think about all of the things I could have missed out on in life if I wasn’t still here today. I would love for the children of today to feel safe someday when they walk in the school building and not worried about who’s going to hurt them emotionally or physically today.
What problem(s) do you wish you could solve?
I wish schools had more funding, so they could offer more services to children in need.
